What is Sensitive Personal Data?

Sensitive personal data includes special categories such as health information, biometric data, racial or ethnic origin, religious beliefs, and sexual orientation that require enhanced protection.

Sensitive personal data refers to categories of personal data that require heightened protection due to their nature. Under GDPR Article 9, special categories include data revealing racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, religious or philosophical beliefs, trade union membership, genetic data, biometric data, health data, and data concerning sex life or sexual orientation.

DPDPA defines sensitive personal data to include financial data, health data, sexual orientation, biometric data, genetic data, transgender status, intersex status, caste or tribe, and religious or political belief or affiliation.
